Our Mission & History
Mission Statement: To Improve Self-Suffiency and to Reduce Poverty
As part of the national network of community action agencies (CAAs), the Community Action Committee of Danbury (CACD) has a long history of helping low-income families and individuals overcome poverty and improve self-sufficiency. CACD is one of twelve CAAs in Connecticut and serves Northwestern Fairfield and Litchfield counties. It was established in 1967 and has been providing services to the poor for more than forty years.
CACD has formal and informal collaborations with over forty social service agencies. The agency works closely with its three sub-delegate agencies: the Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury, the Association of Religious Communities, and Danbury Youth Services.
CACD is a fixture in its service delivery area and provides a broad array of services intended to help low-income individuals and familes improve self-sufficiency and move out of poverty. Contributions are welcome in order to assist CACD to provide services to additional low-income individuals and families so that the neediest people are not left behind.
CACD promotes community volunteerism. Volunteers help people and provide a means for communities to provide more service to their citizens in need, especially in these difficult economic times when community budgets are strained. CACD encourages people to volunteer in their communities or areas of interest in order to help people meet their needs, a very important task for society's neediest people.
